117 New Advocates Enrolled

On Friday November 10,2023, the Registrar High Court HW Rosemary Bareebe, representing the Chief Registrar, presided over the enrolment ceremony of 117 new advocates.

HW Bareebe emphasized the importance of upholding ethics and discipline while prioritizing justice over the mere representation of clients' interests in court. She urged the new advocates to embody humility, honesty, and courtesy towards colleagues and the court.

The Registrar urged them to seek mentors for guidance. She noted the role of technology and the Internet in enhancing their legal skills. 

The new advocates were encouraged to be patient, articulate, and maintain a professional appearance, projecting an image of respectability.

Additionally, HW Bareebe advised the new advocates to consider serving in areas outside the city where the demand for legal services is high.

Ms Fatuma Omar, who represented the President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS) congratulated the new advocates and urged them to join the ULS for benefits such as mentorship, training, participation in Legal Aid Projects, and access to the ULS  Medicare Scheme. 

She echoed the importance of technology in improving efficiency and maintaining client relationships, while also highlighting the significance of professionalism and courtesy in delivering the best services.

Ms Peace Anthocon, who represented the Uganda Law Council urged the new officers of court to set themselves apart as influential individuals in their communities. She emphasized the avoidance of unprofessional conduct, adherence to established principles, and a commitment to steering clear of fraud.

The ceremony was moderated by HW Timothy Lumunye, the Chief Registrar's Personal Assistant.
